We strive to make our website and mobile application accessible. The declaration on digital accessibility is required by the Berlin Act on Accessible Information and Communication Technology (BIKTG Bln). The technical requirements for accessibility are set out in BITV 2.0.

This digital accessibility statement applies to the website www.messe-berlin.de.

Preparation of this accessibility statement

This statement was last revised on 26 May 2025.

The technical accessibility review was carried out in part by an external expert as part of a BIK BITV test and by means of a self-assessment.

How accessible is the service?

This website is partially accessible. Only some of the requirements of BITV 2.0 are met. Work is currently underway to implement and, in particular, improve accessibility. Accessible design is taken into account, especially when making additions and revisions.

Text alternatives

  • Alternative texts for graphics and objects: Not all graphics and objects have the required text alternatives.
    • Requirement 9.1.1 of EN 301 549
    • Action: Raise awareness among editors. Keep checking existing pages for suitable alternative texts. The alternative text field is set as a required field in the content management system.
    • Schedule: Ongoing work | Pages can no longer be republished if alternative texts are missing.
  • Empty alt attributes for layout graphics: Not all layout graphics have the necessary alt attributes.
    • Requirement 9.1.1 of EN 301 549
    • Action: Faulty layout graphics are checked and supplemented with alt attributes.
    • Schedule: Ongoing work

Information and relationships

  • Inadequate or incorrect implementation of lists and/or list entries, or excessive, inappropriate and overloaded use of lists.
    • Requirement 9.1.3.1 of EN 301 549
    • Action: Clean-up of list entries by web agency
    • Schedule: Clean-up to be completed by the end of 2025

Distinguishable

  • Can be used without colours: Some information is only conveyed through the perception of colour.
    • Requirement 9.1.4.1 of EN 301 549
    • Action: Elements that convey information solely through the perception of colour will no longer be used in future. Thematic awareness-raising among editors.
    • Timetable: Throughout 2025
  • Text contrasts: Not all text contrasts achieve a sufficient value.
    • Requirement 9.1.4.3 of EN 301 549
    • Action: Raise awareness among editors. Ongoing review of our website by our web agency to identify and correct incorrect contrast values.
    • Timetable: Correction of all incorrect contrast values by the end of 2025.

Readable

  • Foreign language words and sections marked: Some foreign language terms are not marked as English.
    • Requirement 9.3.1 of EN 301 549
    • Action: English terms will be marked. Raising awareness among editors. Ongoing review of existing pages.
    • Schedule: In progress

Help with data entry

  • Error detection and help with errors: Error messages in forms are insufficient in terms of content.
    • Requirement 9.2.5 of EN 301 549
    • Action: Unfortunately, the application currently used for forms is not accessible. We are currently working on a replacement solution.
    • Schedule: Replacement of forms as soon as a new form tool has been introduced.

Compatible

  • Correct syntax: Some duplicate IDs exist.
    • Action: Logic for assigning IDs will be revised.
    • Schedule: Newly set IDs will be assigned uniquely.

Documents

  • The documents available for download are not always accessible.
    • Action: Addressing the barrier in 2025.
